GENERAL
The Simplex Preservation Society encourages all Amateur Radio Operators to maintain their ability to effectively communicate independently of repeaters and the Internet. The ability to communicate "antenna to antenna", local or distant, with no help along the way, sets Amateur Radio apart from all other communications services. The Simplex Preservation Society encourages all Amateur Radio Operators to use and enjoy all forms of direct communications, on all bands and modes. The Simplex Preservation Society also seeks to supplement traditional Emergency Communications models with a less formal plan that allows any and all Amateur Radio Operators to exchange important information within their neighborhoods and communities.
Also, this is a non-technical site. There are many, many websites with all the technical Amateur Radio information you could ever want. We're not going to try to re-invent that particular wheel.
Here's how you can help:
- Join the Simplex Preservation Society. There are no dues. The bigger our member list, the better the chance that our message will be heard by frequency coordinators and others.
- When possible, monitor 146.520 MHz to assist travelers passing through your area.
- Conduct regular, informal simplex "rag chew" sessions with Amateur Radio operators in your area. Exchange important community information with each other, then transfer that information to friends, family & neighbors. Word will spread from there!
- Use repeaters only when necessary to make a contact, not just because they are there.
- Make regular HF contacts with other SPS members to maintain the ability to get information from state to state.
- Encourage your club to conduct regular simplex nets and exercises.
- Keep in contact with your regional frequency coordinator & let them know that simplex is alive in your area.
- Tell other Amateur Radio Operators about the Simplex Preservation Society.
